The Scorpio is an eternally intriguing creature who seems to know and guard the riddle of life and death. They either fascinate or frighten all of the opposite sex they meet. They are magnetic, lusty and endowed with mysterious powers. They can move heaven or hell with a single look. Nobody could ask for more than they offer.
The Scorpio Personality
Scorpios are often seen as serious people who are not easily ignored due to their intense nature. However, what many people do not realize is that they have an excellent sense of humor… as long as you do not cross them. Scorpios do not usually seek confrontation and would rather keep their weapons in reserve to be used in self-defense. Scorpios are indeed a misunderstood zodiac sign and have traditionally been unfairly labeled.
Eighth zodiac sign
Scorpio is the Eighth Sign of the Zodiac and the second water sign (after Cancer). Scorpios have an intimate connection with the world of the unconscious and have an instinctive nature of life. Scorpio’s interest is in discovering other people’s emotions and how they respond to the world around them.
Scorpio is the Sign of Sex and Death, the beginning and end of things, and they explore these ideas from an emotional standpoint. People born under this sign are investigative and probing, often strongly intuitive and penetrating.
Scorpio rules the eighth House, a mysterious sector that rules birth, death, sex, transformation, mysteries, merged energies, and bonding at the deepest level. The eighth house also rules other people’s property and money (real estate, inheritances, investments, etc.)
Mars and Pluto
The Planets Mars and Pluto rule Scorpio. In ancient Roman mythology, Mars was the God of War, and ancient astrologers assigned both Aries and Scorpio to this Planet. Pluto (and his Greek equivalent, Hades) was the God of the Underworld, and when the planet Pluto was discovered early in the 20th Century astrologers assigned Scorpio to this Planet.
Mars gives Scorpios dynamism and directedness. Those ruled by Mars defend and assert themselves or their egos. Mars also represents our survival factor and sexuality. Pluto, on the other hand, is associated with spiritual changes, self-development, transformation, and power. Pluto provides Scorpio’s powerful, dark, sexual, fateful and deep aspects.
The Scorpion, Eagle, and Phoenix
It is significant that Scorpio has not one symbol, but several: the Scorpion, the Eagle and the Phoenix, each contributing distinctive qualities to the Sign’s nature. Like the mythical Scorpion, people born under this Sign tend to be strong-willed and wary of being controlled by others. At times they can be self-destructive, like the Scorpion who kills itself rather than letting someone else kill it. They are very determined, and once they have made up their minds, they are unlikely to change them. They tend to be stubborn, refusing to give up when others have long since got bored and abandoned a project, and getting things done when no one else thought it possible. In this way, Scorpio exemplifies the Fixed Quality assigned to it.
The Eagle aspect provides a shrewd insight possessed by most Scorpio natives… they have the ability to see what others miss. The Eagle represents Scorpio’s far-seeing nature. They discern hidden motives, ferreting out secret flaws and vulnerabilities. Indeed, due to the thirst for power and mastery, those governed by this Zodiac Sign are not above exploiting the weaknesses of others to their own advantage. It has been said that counted among the most important tasks of those ruled by Scorpio is the necessity to rid themselves of the tendency to be judgmental, learning to temper their insight with compassion.
Individuals who can manage this difficult assignment manifest the virtues of the Phoenix… the redemptive third aspect of this sign. Much like the Phoenix, those governed by Scorpio are survivors. In an emotional sense, they may perish in the ashes of their own destructive nature, but they can also transcend and transform. The Phoenix is regenerated from the ashes of its death, and it rises into the sky, reborn.
